Central City was incorporated in 1859 and will celebrate its Sesquicentennial in 2009.
Citizens experience a small town lifestyle surrounded by the picturesque farmland made famous by artist Grant Wood, but with the convenience of a metropolitan area just minutes away.
Central City has ample recreational opportunities. The picturesque Wapsipinicon River runs through the heart of town, drawing fisherman to the area. Brendel Park is also located near Downtown Central City with a modern playground constructed in 2007. Central City is also the home of Pinicon Ridge Park, a county park offering camping, cabin lodging, fishing, lodges for family and business events, picnicking and a playground to its visitors - along with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
Central City has started construction of a bike trail and splash pad for citizens and visitor use. It is also the home of the Linn County Fair, held annually in July. Like to golf? - The 9-hole Meadowview Golf Course is located along the east side of town.
