The Central City Community School, located at 400 Barber Street, serves students K-12 in Central City. The campus features a recently completed 3.5 million dollar high school addition, on site day care facility and the Alex Evans athletic complex. K through 12 enrollment is 459 with an eleven to one student/teacher ratio. Central City even offers each student in grades 5 - 12 their own personal laptop computer for use at home and school.

The J.C. Clegg Public Library, located in the Falcon Civic Center at 137 Fourth Street North offers a variety of services including interlibrary loan, reference services, copy and fax services, internet access, wireless internet, large print books, magazines, videos, CDs, DVDs, and word processing software. Library hours are Monday and Wednesday 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Tuesday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Thursday 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and Friday Noon to 4:30 pm.

Central City also hosts the Linn County Fair in July. Central City's downtown has experienced a rejuvenation in activity and businesses through the Mainstreet project.

The Falcon Civic Center serves as the hub of community activity in Central City. Built in 1987 and funded largely by a bequest from the estate of Lawrence and Lera Falcon, the civic center complex houses the Central City Volunteer Fire Department, the J.C. Clegg Public Library, City offices and council chambers, and two meeting rooms with a large kitchen. The rooms are used by various community groups and are available to rent for private gatherings.
The Linn County Fairgrounds are located on the south edge of Central City bordering on the Wakpicada Natural Area. In addition to hosting the annual Linn County Fair, which originated in 1888, the Fairgrounds also hosts a variety of other events throughout the year including, truck and tractor pulls, motocross racing, and the annual SPBGMA Bluegrass Festival and Fiddler's Jamboree in August.
The headquarters of the Northeast Linn Ambulance Service are located just south of Falcon Civic Center on Commercial Street.
