Central City Mainstreet is governed and powered by volunteers of all ages. In 2008, volunteers logged almost 4600 hours of service. The Mainstreet organization and its volunteers have also been recognized over the years with several state and national awards.
Volunteers in the program are open to a wide variety of activities and educational experiences. As a Central City Mainstreet volunteer, you will enjoy meeting new people and working in an upbeat environment.
No matter what your interests or areas of expertise there is a place for you in Central City Mainstreet. If you have a few hours to spare occasionally (or on a regular basis), we'd love to have you join in the efforts to improve our community. We can match your special interests or talents with the tasks that need a volunteer.
Annual projects include the Central City Farmers' Market, Clean-Up Day and Holiday on Main and the quarterly Mainstreet Newsletter. For those desiring an in-depth volunteer experience, volunteers have the opportunity to attend state-sponsored training sessions which detail the fine points of historic preservation, grant writing and other activities essential to successful operation of the local program.
If you are part of a community organization looking for a project, we can work with you to set up a unique and rewarding experience for your group to take part in or to lead. Members of church and school groups and various community organizations such as the Central City Historical Society, North Linn Fish & Game Club, American Legion and AmVets, Scout Troups, 4H clubs and others have also been instrumental in the success of the program.
